In healthcare, to make sure we fully understand a disease, we usually study them one at a time, in depth. But now we’re getting to the point of having enough data—and a potential boost from AI—that we can look at multiple factors in disease causation at the same time. This new study identifies overlapping factors that affect the odds of developing these three diseases later in life, and opens the door to actions that decrease risk in areas that impact all three at the same time. The diseases studied are those many of us fear the most: stroke, dementia and late life depression (LLD), and women are at higher risk for all three.

Focusing on activities that decrease risk helps at any age—but starting in middle life is even better. Here’s more on the study and several related studies, including two gifted articles (no paywall). You’re welcome!
