Measles tariff: another child death as measles continue to rip through Texas and the US
An 8 year old is second child death and third total death, with >600 known US cases. With 2 to 3 deaths per thousand cases plus ugly side effects, we're on the brink of a disaster.
The most recent measles count is >600 known measles cases in the US, undoubtedly an undercount since many more cases are probably not reported. Another child has died; this one was 8 years old. The first child who died in the Texas outbreak was only 6, and they join an adult who died in New Mexico from the same outbreak.
RFK is rumored to be going to the child’s funeral—a funeral no one should ever have to attend.
In Texas alone, there are more than 480 known cases in 19 counties, fueled by under- and unvaccinated populations. Kids and adults in the 38 orange states—be below are at particular risk; these states are the most undervaccinated.
We’ve covered the immense risks of this completely preventable disease before, including more on undervaccinated states. Three new New York Times articles focus on the spread, and why we may be headed for an even larger outbreak. All three are GIFTED articles—no paywall for you.

How measles attacks an unvaccinated child details the potential devastation to a child’s body. “Nine out of 10 unvaccinated people exposed to an infected person will catch it, and once measles takes root, the virus can damage the lungs, kidneys and the brain.”
I Study Measles. I’m Terrified We’re Headed for an Epidemic. An epidemiologist and immunologist who has studied measles tells us what RFK Jr. won’t.
