Proposed SC bill to make abortion a homicide in a death sentence state
Political purity resurfaces in a state already home to a 6 week abortion ban
A pre-filed South Carolina bill changes the word “fetus” to “unborn person” and makes abortion punishable as a homicide in a death penalty state.
“This bill does not dictate what penalties have to be meted out. That would be something which, as for any homicide case, would be the jurisdiction of the court system," District 38 Rep. Josiah Magnuson notes. "We're not going to see any sort of investigations of miscarriages and things. That's something that comes up sometimes; there's no way to prove that a miscarriage was an abortion, and so you're never going to see a prosecutor try to prove that."
That was the plan in Ohio, too, where a year of prosecution and legal fees followed a wrenching physical loss.
