It started with Healthy Seniors founder Diana’s mom telling her, “I don’t need more information. I need someone to help me understand what actually matters for someone my age. Give me steps I can take. And please, treat me like the intelligent adult I am.”
I was drawn to a Healthy Seniors post today on stress after 60, and really liked what I saw. I’ve seen some of the info elsewhere, but not the physiology of stress and aging put together so completely and understandably. Here’s that post and a sample of others:
The weight no one sees: Understanding stress after sixty. Best explanation yet on why we can’t handle stress like we did in our forties, when stress just made the day more interesting.
How do you keep going when everyone else is gone? This one’s huge. My mother, aunt and uncle lived to 100. I watched how two of them carefully cultivated friends 20 years younger, thinking ahead to the depression that can come when you’re the only one left. And see more great tips on making new friends after retirement.
A beginner’s guide to Tai Chi: Simple steps for better stability at home. Women experience more hip fractures than men for a variety of reasons; we’re doing a post soon on that. Tai Chi is one (lovely) way to improving balance, key to avoiding a life altering hip fracture. Here’s a great way to explore Tai Chi without having to first commit to a class.
When it’s time to hand over the keys: A loving look at safe driving after 70. It’s an issue we’re all going to face. Having watched our older family members go through this one, I’m hoping I can handle it with grace.
There are scores of other really interesting posts on great topics from connecting to purpose and even senior tech. And like all of us, Diana and the folks at Healthy Seniors hope you’ll comment, ❤️, or restack posts you like. Spread the word; it’s a terrific site!
